VTU Energy continues success story in Oman

Another on-time delivery by VTU Energy in the Sultanate of Oman13.03.2018

Again, VTU Energy contributed to a major project for the water supply in Oman.  The Barka Reverse Osmosis Independent Water Plant (Barka IWP) with a capacity of 281,000 m³/day (62 MIGD) is being constructed by SUEZ International and will start commercial operation in 2018.  VTU Energy supplied the billing system enabling the IWP to generate the monthly invoice in full accordance with the 20-year water purchase agreement (WPA) with the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP). VTU’s PASS plant accounting and settlement system was delivered and successfully tested on site in February 2018.

The Barka IWP is the most recent project of VTU Energy in the Sultanate of Oman. Since the Salalah IWPP project, which was the first project of VTU in the Sultanate in 2011, VTU has been involved in many large power & water infrastructure projects in Oman:  Project developers and/or operating companies for Barka 3/Sohar 2 IWPP (1500 MW), Sur IPP (2100 MW), Al Ghubrah IWP (42 MIGD), Ibri/Sohar 3 IPP (2600 MW), Musandam IPP (100 MW), Qurayyat IWP (44 MIGD), and Salalah 2 IPP (445 MW) either used VTU’s expertise to optimize their bids, or they apply VTU’s settlement systems or fuel demand models.

“We are very glad to see that VTU Energy is being trusted for its expertise in the Omani power and water market.  The model of public-private partnership (PPP) for these large infrastructure projects has successfully proven to meet the fast-growing demand for power and water. We are very proud that our systems and expertise help the independent plants and the off-taker to effectively apply the PPP business model in their daily operation,” says Dr. Josef Petek, commercial manager of VTU Energy.
